2009 Young Writer-In-Residence

Applications for 2009 Young Writer-In-Residence close 5pm, Friday, 31st July 2009 (pending funding)

Position is available in late 2009 by negotiation

One Young Writer, up to the age of twenty-five years, will be selected for a two-week residency at the Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre, Greenmount. The resident will receive a salary of $1,100 and be given writing space and time to concentrate on, develop or complete a work in progress. The writer will also be invited to participate in Katharine Susannah Prichard (KSP) Writers' Centre activities.

The Selection Committee will be looking for a talented young writer able to show application to the craft of writing. It is expected that the writer will have some published material in the print, visual or broadcast media. Ideally, applicants should be working towards achieving their first major full-length publication. Applicants may conduct a workshop at the Centre during their residency. If the applicant wishes to do so full support will be given to that endeavour by the Centre. However, applicants who do not want to present a workshop will NOT be penalised.

2010 Established Editor or Writer-In-Residence

Applications for 2010 Established Writer/Editor in Residence close 5pm, Friday, 24 July 2009 (pending funding)

One position.

Full-time period of four (4) weeks, or equivalent part time. Salary: $3500.

The Established Writer-in-Residence should have achieved major publication and have demonstrated a commitment towards furthering the status and practice of writing among his/her peers and the community in general. Experience in preparation for and conducting of workshops and seminars is desirable.

2010 Emerging Writer-In-Residence

Applications for 2010 Emerging Writer in Residence must be post marked Friday 28 August 2009 (pending funding)

Up to two positions, dependent on funding.

Full-time period of four (4) weeks, or equivalent part time. Salary: $2250.

Emerging does not mean beginner. The Selection Committee will be looking for talented writers able to show application to the craft of writing. It is expected that selected writers will have some published material, in the print, visual or broadcast media. Ideally, applicants should be working towards achieving their first major full-length publication.

2010 WA Regional Emerging Writer-In-Residence

Applications for 2010 WA Regional Emerging Writer in Residence must be post marked Friday 28 August 2009 (pending funding)

One position for a WA Writer living outside the Perth Metropolitan Area. Preferred Time is July.

Full-time period of four (4) weeks, or equivalent part time. Salary: $2250.

Emerging does not mean beginner. The Selection Committee will be looking for talented writers able to show application to the craft of writing. It is expected that selected writers will have some published material, in the print, visual or broadcast media. Ideally, applicants should be working towards achieving their first major full-length publication.


PLEASE NOTE: These positions are conditional on ArtsWA funding for 2008/2009. Number, salary and duration of residencies may vary. It is a condition of application that you be a member of one of the WA Writers Centre organisations (Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre, Peter Cowan Writers Centre, Fellowship of Australian Writers WA), however, successful applicants are expected to join the Katharine Susannah Writers' Centre. Membership is available on application for non-members wishing to apply for a residency.

Successful applicants are expected to sign a contract detailing terms of the residency, signed by the Chairperson or a representative of the Katharine Susannah Prichard Foundation Inc. Management Committee.


Residency (How it works for writers and the Centre)

This information is mainly for Established and Emerging Writers. Young Writers are not required to present a workshop, but are welcome to present one workshop if they wish, and not required to give mentoring unless they wish to.
